a grandpa can use a macbook, they became insanely efficient since they're on ARM chips, those are tracking devices but they will not reshape his mind since they are designed as a productivity tool rather than as a consumption/doomscrolling device

i never denied the efficiency of smartphones actually i am quite surprised at how long I am able to livestream from one before the 3Ah battery gets flat but they cannot be considered a main computing devices because resisting the tracking and brainwashing they cause require a knowledge and willpower that, a grandpa per example, would not have

we should recenter the thread on other subjects as computing is a solved issue and not the main way we waste energy (at least not the main way we waste electrical energy), also talking about computing kinda is the most boring thing to talk about after you spent like 20 years on the Internet



lately I've been doing most of my cooking on a small portable gaz stove, it uses disposable gaz cartridges which is kinda inefficient but I have cooked a few meals already and the cartridge is still not empty, a new one cost less than 2€ so still cheap enough, idk if I'm sparing money compared to just using electricity but at least it is more convenient and the smell of burned butane is better than the smell of old dusty hot metal I get when I try to use the apartment's electric hotplate

when I'm not using gaz I am using air fryer and rice cookers and similar machines which are I believe more efficient than an electric hotplate

Pretty sure you can burn ethanol and other alcohols to use it as heat for cooking and such, but I don't know enough if its better than conventional gas.

I think using electricity to generate heat is fine if it came from renewable sources where there wasn't any heat in the process. I'm also going to include nuclear power since you can't really have a nuclear reactor in your home to heat it up.
