Hello, everyone.
I first found out about this place through the youtube channel (either the Tractatus video or one of the Heidegger ones was the first one I saw appear in my recommended). Since then I have tuned into the youtube streams from time to time.
Academically my primary interests are philosophy and classics. Some authors I like include Aristotle, Plato, Schiller, Goethe, Dostoyevsky, Nietzsche, Mainlander, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, Mishima, Aquinas, and MacIntyre.
If I am not reading in my free time then I am usually doing something related to anime and/or internet culture. Some examples of anime/manga I like are Evangelion, Lain, PMMM, FMA:B, Chainsaw Man, Mariaholic, and Girls und Panzer (not particularly exotic tastes, but so it goes). I also like Touhou and Umamusume (Keiki is my favorite character from the former), and back in the day (not as much now) I would play TF2, Gmod, and Victoria II.
Currently I am in the middle of reading Feeney's The Gods in Epic and the autobiography/diary of Pope John XXIII. I also just started reading Infinite Jest, and I am in the middle of watching Haruhi for the first time (right now I am halfway through The Endless Eight).

Re: Introduce Yourself
Fun! I plan on doing analysis whenever I get inspired again after algebra. I've heard good things about Tao's book so I'll probably use that. I've been in a math slump for awhile too but self teaching is much more fun than classes and I'm pretty motivated to keep it up everyday. I don't know your background but you will probably have a less frustrating time if you at least have a little bit of familiarity with basic linear algebra and or math proofs/discrete math before you start abstract algebra.AIpiqiA wrote: Thu May 28, 2026 12:02 amSounds like a nice pace! I stopped my daily math consumption for almost a year now and it kinda bums me out. Pinter's Algebra seems like a good re-entry for me since it has many trivial problems to warm up with. I'm also planning to go through some chapters in Tao's Analysis I. Ideally I'd also be doing linear algebra, like gilbert strang's introduction to LA or LADR, but I only have Hoffman and Kunze Linear Algebra on me and I find it rather hard to get through so I'll probably just stick with Pinter and Tao.AsaFromNasa wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 11:32 pmI'm only through the refresher appendices and most of chapter 1 but i really like it so far. It's a rare pleasure for me to be able to spend a lot of time understanding my math/physics books so i plan on milking it out all summer and just doing 1-2 pages a day. What math books/subjects are you planning on doing?

Re: Introduce Yourself
Want to highlight this excellent post since it got bumped onto the previous page. It's an honor to have a mini-celeb in the sphere of fans of weird untranslated games! And don't worry if there's a divergence in interests. I'm into a lot of weird things and don't expect everyone to have all the same passions as me. That goes for everyone on here, by the way!saint wrote: Thu May 28, 2026 12:45 amWhatup bros, I'm Saint, I found Amlux's site because he joined my Discord server and someone found his website from that somehow and sent it to me. Though I'm surprised I hadn't heard of him before because I feel like there's only a small amount of "westerners who know Japanese and read VNs" on the internet.
I'm just an autistic retard (diagnosed) college dropout that streams/records myself playing obscure games (Mikennemonic was my inspiration if you've ever watched his videos). Somehow I've managed to teach myself to read Japanese solely to play untranslated obscure games, read eroge, and understand raw H-manga, despite never stepping foot on the island of Japan. Though I've kinda lost motivation in recent years and don't really engage with Japanese media as much as I did before. Compared to other people here I have basically no interest in philosophy. Whenever I try to engage with it it just seems like concepts I've already touched upon randomly in my own introspection in the past with like one million added words to pad it out. Maybe someone here can explain the appeal because I don't get it at all. Oh yeah and also I'm pretty sure I have musical anhedonia or some shit so I don't really like music either lol. Besides specific VGM music like what was on the PC-98. Don't know if there's any hobbies I share with most people here beyond video games.
Jesuitical scholarship to neo-paganism pipeline? Heidegger will show you the way!MeisterJohann wrote: Thu May 28, 2026 1:10 amCurrently I am in the middle of reading Feeney's The Gods in Epic and the autobiography/diary of Pope John XXIII. I suppose it would be accurate to say that the Pantsu Prophet came to me when he joined my forum Deluoode. He has been an excellent contributor for us so I was excited to hear that he started his own forum as well. I actually did not know that you made videos until now Amlux, I tried doing a cursory search of "PantsuProphet YouTube" and couldn't find anything; could you direct me to them? I'd be interested in giving it a look.Amlux wrote: Tue May 26, 2026 1:17 amHow did you find the Oppai Oracle or Pantsu Prophet? It feels conceited of me to ask this since most of the answers will probably be related to my videos, but it's a good conversation starter I guess
What are your hobbies and interests?
What are you reading/playing/watching at the moment and what do you think?
My hobbies are interests are fairly numerous, but as far as things people here would be interested in goes I am a big fan of Anime, visual novels, and have more casual interests in JRPGs and shmups as well as general vidya and I do a little speedrunning on the side. I also enjoy messing around with websites and the like, though truthfully I am not the best at technology. But as the old saying goes, where there's a will there's a way.
I am currently watching G Gundam and Pachislot Kizoku Gin, both are alright and good enough not to drop but neither have exactly grasped me. What has grasped me is the visual novel I am reading, Higurashi, which is well on it's way to becoming one of my very few 10/10s. I love and want to marry Shion very badly.
Heck yeah, Victoria 2 rocks. One of my favourite video games.

I'm starting to abandon it as a base of operations but I got a pretty big following posting philosophy lectures and general thoughts, as well as streaming games and trying to integrate my more nerdy interests. I don't plan to use it for much more than the occasional philosophy lecture at this point though. I'm trying to abandon big tech platforms in general and YouTube has to be one, even though it's the hardest for me to let go of!

OH FUCK I've been sent that Tractatus Subahibi video before but I had no idea you had made it. Re: Introduce Yourself
I pretty much don't have formal math background YET since I haven't entered uni yet although I will do mathematics as my major.AsaFromNasa wrote: Thu May 28, 2026 2:05 amFun! I have practiced some proof writing on my own though and have had the pleasure of bashing my head on some stuff that became "obvious" on retrospect once I actually saw how proofs should be like on Tao's analysis book when I was trying to really get into it the summer 2 years ago. It gets better the more you do it and the more your mistakes get "corrected", as long as you try it yourself again ofc.
I don't really have much linear algebra background either, but I found Pinter Algebra to be very understandable, atleast the first few chapters that I've read. Linear Algebra is just a specialized study on a specific class of Algebra after all, you can engage with 'Abstract Algebra' even with just basic ideas on "operations".
For example, one of my favorite examples of an operation is one of putting on underwear and shorts in a specific order such that being non commutative because the order matters
I'll try starting a maths general thread on the akademia board since we seem to have quite a few math newbies like me, veterans, and hobbyists in the forum, and it'll be a good excuse to keep up with math studies.

Hello everynyan!
A friend of mine recently saw that this site exists, so I joined because of her. I think she knew about it initially through the Tractatus video, but I prune my youtube to only show me videos sub 10k views unless I actively seek out something with more. When I heard about Jade Vine for the first time, it was still through youtube but in the form of Personal Thoughts: Individualism and Collectivism, which I found really interesting. Since then I've here and there read the pantsu prophet site.
As for hobbies, I'm really into film, film theory, literary criticism, philosophy (most especially Hegel, but I like a lot of the early moderns too like Descartes and Leibniz if he counts) and cooking (Provençal is my current phase). My bachelor's is in classical studies; and for that reason I can half make my way through Ancient Greek and Latin texts, but don't expect something that resembles fluency. I've been a lifelong otaku but in relatively niche areas—I can talk about 80s OVAs for days but I'm only now watching Utena. Oh and I'm big on psychoanalysis, though I haven't actively studied it in a couple years.
I've most recently read The Big Sleep (finished today!) and A Study in Scarlet. I've most recently watched Mr. Arkadin and Secret Sunshine. I've most recently listened to Endlessness by Nala Sinephro and The Virgin Suicides soundtrack. I play frightfully few video games because I never have the time, but when I do have time I play way too much Straftat, which is a free boomer shooter-y arena shooter. My girlfriend is currently showing me Utena and I am showing her Tenchi Universe.

I think eventually everyone does need to study closely Plato and Aristotle, but it's definitely okay if those authors aren't immediately the most interesting to you. They can be much more accessible than they may seem on the surface (I find The Symposium is a really funny and engaging read, and Nichomachean Ethics has more tonally in common with Thoreau than Aquinas), but I started my philosophy journey with Foucault and I don't think it ruined my chances for future development. Read the thing that you want to read, and as long as that's not Hegel it'll probably go better than forcing yourself through something you don't care about yet and don't see the stakes of. Once you're hooked, you'll be able to read the classics with new eyes, and then they'll retrospectively do the work they need to.AsaFromNasa wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 3:00 amI want to read more philosophy but I usually get overwhelmed with having to either start with the Greeks or not know whats happening.

Re: Introduce Yourself
Hello!
I go by 天使/Tenshi/999. Most people just name me whatever they see fit and I don’t correct them.
I originally was planning on studying industrial design, but recent events have had me pivot into something biology-related. I have a website that I occasionally work on when I’m feeling motivated. I am fluent in Mandarin and am learning Japanese.
I got into anime via Haruhi (Naruto was my first but I really only got invested from Haruhi.) I love all things moe, and actively try to seek out untranslated works or old games without archives for preservation. I also have a bunch of music CDs for this reason, and have quite the backlog due to it… I will start chipping through it once I finish moving.
I make illustrations, paint garage kits, help my friends with their passion projects in my spare time. I recently have gotten into organizing small fan markets and other meetups in my area after the recent success of the first comiket-like event at a convention in my area (that I didn’t attend because they banned loli XD)
I actually was introduced to Amlux’s website via drummyfish! ( I rarely use YouTube and I had an extension on it that limits me to just my subscriptions, until I moved to a mirror site.) We had a few email exchanges and he mentioned him offhandedly to me, so I looked him up and was very pleasantly surprised.
Outside of weeb stuff, I like ecology, primatology, medicine + surgeries, horses, and a huge selection of native religions. There’s much more but I can’t think of it at the moment. I did finally start my play through of the original Tsukihime after putting it off for so long, will update with my thoughts on it soon.
I am glad to be here! Hope that we all can talk soon ^o^)/
