What Have You Been Listening To?

Post by Deoster »

A topic for talking about and recommending songs you've been listening to recently. I thought it might be better to do with individual songs/tracks rather than albums as it'd be easier for others to take a quick look and share thoughts, but talk about albums too if you want

What have you had on repeat?

For me, the past few days I've been listening to "Stone Stone Stone" off the 2022 album of the same name by the Otomo Yoshihide Special Big Band over and over. It has a fun, beautiful, powerful little melody played with such energy!

Very lovely piece, Deoster. I have a soft spot for jazz but i haven't listened to much beyond Coltrane and Mingus (The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady is one of my favorite non-classical works).
A few days ago I discovered (or rediscovered) Brahms' first piano concerto and I've been listening to it on repeat since. I've been a fan of Brahms for many years and I can't imagine how a piece so beautiful and dramatic flew under my radar for so long. I like the whole thing but the first movement is my definitely my favorite.

get away - s connection
hero (happy grandale remix) - miss papaya
love so bright - makai
bailando - loona
drop pop candy - reol
higher - NM
another night (dj tora remix) - morgana
a way of life - p3p ost
:hitler: :hitler: :hitler:
i have fond memories with the last three songs. i used to listen to them every single day last summer. “get away” is my favourite at the moment. i can’t explain it, but it’s like the perfect mix of everything i want in a song.

been waiting for a music thread, since music is the best~. i just don't know how to start topics
anyhow after listening to the same crap for so long, i refound Miles Davis' On The Corner track and got reminded of how super cool and unique the track is for a funk-jazz thing. it was kinda punk which how collective it is compared to the more soloist nature of jazz, every instrument is just given a minimal role (a trumpet with a wah-wah effect) all to one groove and it's super cool and very avant...

i can hear all of the inspirations (James Brown, Stockhausen, Ornette Coleman) but apparently miles was inspired by Bach for this album? and i don't hear it.

anyhow, i've also been listening to John Fahey's Days Gone By album again, probably the artist whose taken the position of my favorite after i got burnt out on Snares Man.

A song I've listened to more than 10 times recently is this combination of Pachelbel's Canon and the Bellhart theme from Silksong:

As for albums:
Strange Celestial Road - Sun Ra
"Say" is my favorite song of his.

The Sun Ra Arkestra Meets Salah Ragab in Egypt - Sun Ra
