Your Saya makes me so jealous. Last I saw a listing for that figure, it was going for 700 USD, and the legs were yellowing on it
Once I get everything set up in my new room, I'll show off my own collection too (And probably make a page on my website for it.) I need to make everything look nice again... And I'll finally have a place for all my Touhou figures!

I find it kind of ironic that a person who is really into Buddhism has a lot of material goods

I basically have had nothing in my room for a long time, the last time I had an anime poster or anything was a Naruto one in 2008. Anything I own mostly consists of obscure games I bought specifically to upload to archive.org. Here's a pic of some interesting stuff though:

The only "doujinshi" I own are some artbooks by Oekaki Ojisan before he changed his name and started drawing for Comic LO. The figure is also LO-related and is in the style of the artist OKINA. The little keychain-thing hanging off of her is Glenn Collins from EDEN, an obscure early 3D eroge game.
On the left is also an obscure early 3D game although it's not really eroge. The CD on the right is one of my "rarest" games I guess, which is 魔界 (Makai), one of the earliest games by Illusion (of Artificial Academy fame and many others). And then I have like a billion CDs and boxes stuffed in a bookshelf and that's pretty much everything in my room that is media-related.

Maybe I'd own more stuff if I lived alone and also had a job, lol

You're right. Everyone has their own indulgences and vices, and I suppose mine is loving a space which is really welcoming and inviting (read: because of material objects). But what's funny is that a lot of the time Buddhist temples are really really decked out with fine material objects of their own. In some cases, thousands of them!

So that contradiction might just be at the core of the practice. I've lived in apartments with bare walls and minimal possessions and always felt like it wore on my mental health to be in them. But at the same time, I try to not possess things just for the sake of collecting anymore. I want everything I have to feel genuinely mean something to me. It's one reason I will be selling a lot of these possessions eventually and only keeping the ones which are most meaningful. Having some record of them to keep digitally like this is a good first step.

Those are fucking awesome. I remember Glenn Collins from that one video you made. One of my first wake-up calls which made me sad was a lot of the more risque loli-esque material I had to trash or give away when moving back from Japan to the US. Even if realistically I probably would have made it through customs with no issue, it was a good lesson in letting go of some materials. One of the best ways I've hoped to become less attached is to start drawing on my own. When you can create artworks of your own, it often suddenly makes owning those of others feel less important.

An interesting perspective. I've always lived with quite bare and generic surroundings other than my computer and my books (which is why I unfortunately don't really have anything to show here) but, especially now that I'm getting more into otaku culture, that might change. For me, having always lived with parents or more recently a randomly selected roommate at college, I guess I was a bit embarrassed to get anything that really represented my interests. Even though, really, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal, and I could probably have gotten away with "broadcasting" myself a lot more, I think I just always preferred to keep my life tucked in the space of the computer. I'm getting my own single room this upcoming semester though so it might be time to rethink what I would like a living space for myself to look like (within a reasonable price range!).

On the topic of material goods broadly, I imagine you can have more and less healthy relationships with these sorts of things. Like with a lot of other things, it's probably good to know you *could* live without these things and view them as transient, but still have them around because you like them and they bring you more joy than the desire for them brings you suffering. After all, it was only after the Buddha took the ̶m̶i̶l̶k̶ ̶r̶i̶c̶e̶ anime figurine that he became enlightened! I think a lot of people would be much better off with taking a more radical approach to their material goods, however. A lot of the time it can be a sort of consumerist binge-eating thing that just distracts you or gives you a status or identity and doesn't bring real joy, think funko pops and cheap clothes and even cars and homes for upper-middle class people (maybe less so nowadays). But I trust people here are more wise than that

Also, it is very inspiring to be surrounded by products of human ingenuity and soul!

This might not fit the thread in general. But to write regardless of that, I highly recommend collecting beautiful gold coins for this matter. Though I haven't touched exotic collector coins because those are quite cumbersome to sell. This is not a financial advice.

It is like hijacking. It is both consuming and saving at the same time. Technically it is like consuming beautiful artworks / figures / whatever. The balance in the bank account goes lower. You can't pay with the gold coin. But at the same time the price only goes up in the long term. Because of the long term inflation. Unlike other things that only diminish.

Gold symbolises eternity. It will hold the value at least until astromining becomes feasible.

Also since gold is expensive, you can hold only small volume. This helps decluttering. But if you want more, you can buy silver coins too. For an 1 oz (~ 31.1 g) coin, gold costs $4,300+ and silver costs $75+ now roughly. With just a bit larger size than the typical everyday coins you use.

Good you bring this up Amlux, I always wondered why a lot of Buddhist temples have gigantic golden Buddha statues, isn't it in direct conflict with his teaching? But as I am thinking about it it doesn't necessarily have to be so maybe. Physical objects may still be useful in helping learn the detachment from physical objects, like living in luxury can make you realize it is shallow. In other words: hoarding may be the ultimate way towards detachment? Anyway sorry for the mental gymnastics, I don't want to be derailing this. Keep posting more pictures please!

One more thing maybe when I'm here: I hate privacy hysteria but one of my hobbies is looking at shiny surfaces in photos to catch a glimpse of the cameraman, things like door handles and latex boobs are great because they're shiny spheres that capture a wide angle of the whole environment.

I didn't know any better phrase than that. But yes. I see the point of your autism and quite agree with it. :)

Why I used the phrase is that if I talk about both gold and consumerism, it naturally becomes about money. But what I wrote is not necessarily about money. It is rather about, I don't know better words again, "constructive consumerism?".

Also another reason is that I don't want to enforce others.
