A place to share Youtube channels and/or channels on Odysee, Peertube, etc that you like.

My personal favorite is John Plant's Primitive Technology, as the name suggests, he makes and builds things such as huts and tools in the wild fully from scratch. You learn alot from this and I would love to do stuff like this in the future.

Honestly I use YouTube almost only for music these days. Especially I don't really watch English sphere YouTubers these days. So I don't know what is going on YouTube in general.


But to pick one anyway, maybe JREG? He does some political joke videos. Recently I was lured by this video especially:

Also although she doesn't do that anymore, I still like what the seiyuu Natsukawa Shiina did during the COVID times. I occasionally rewatch them.

This does not need any words at all.



You need some Japanese for this, but you could still somewhat guess what she did.

But to pick one anyway, maybe JREG? He does some political joke videos.

I liked Jreg when I was younger and found all the Centricide stuff pretty entertaining. Nowadays occasionally I like the Horseshoe Theory Podcast with him and a guy called Brogan which is half entertaining and half insufferable.

Here are some channels I like:

Drunzo - A guy who really likes books and talks about them. He doesn't do very deep analysis or critique or anything like that much of the time, but you can very easily tell his passion for things like history and it's quite inspiring, and I find his videos quite comforting nowadays.

MandaloreGaming - Some good reviews on older or more obscure video games.

michah_raygun_ - I liked some of this guy's videos about roleplaying and general RPG philosophy, and he has a lot of Daggerfall let's plays if you're into that.

Northernlion - This could be considered on the more slop side of the spectrum but I like to have him on in the background and I think he's one of the substantially less annoying and more worthwhile big YouTubers. Often enough he can be very funny. Always listening to YouTube videos in the background while I'm doing anything is a habit I'm trying to break, though.

Of Herbs and Altars - Interesting videos about 2000s Goth/nightclub youth culture in the UK, experiences with anorexia, and addiction.

PilotRedSun - Most of you have probably heard of him but for those who haven't he makes some very good and interesting short animations that are worth checking out. I also really like his album Achievement.

Tantacrul - Fairly interesting videos about music and music software design. Right now this guy's working on Musescore which I use fairly often and his videos about the design process are very insightful and fascinating. I'm a bit less enthusiastic about some of his work on Audacity, but what can you do.

I try to limit YT because obviously it's cancer but indeed I do have a few guilty pleasure channels I watch sometimes (now mostly via freetube). Here are a few (maybe I'll edit some more in later):

Fascinating History: very cool lad with good sense of humor documenting curious historical events in a calm voice. No sponsor messages or similar crap.

Fascinating Horror: the same guy, here doing short (~10 min) videos on various tragedies in a neutral tone, no drama or opinions, just facts.

Qxir: Irish guy narrating and illustrating interesting and often morbid stories in a fun way. I can see him being annoying to someone viewers as he's got this more pronounced style and character, so it's a matter of taste. I personally like his videos.

Gus Johnson: Very funny guy doing sketches with his family and friends, usually making fun of the stereotypical US south rednecks and stuff like that. He also does chill streams where he opens up Pokemon cards and things like that.

Practical Engineering: Cool engineer guy, I believe from Texas. He looks absolutely like the typical engineer and has a quite nice voice, does a lot of shorter (~10 min) videos on cool engineering concepts as well as longer (~20 min) minidocumentaries, especially on dam failures but also on blackouts etc. He has this cool series called "what's that infrastructure" where he examines photos of weird things in cities, I enjoyed this one a lot. Sadly has sponsors (use sponsorblock).

Smarter Every Day 2: Smarter Every Day is fairly well known -- this is his second channel where he dumps uncut videos of him touring factories and speaking to the CEOs and engineers and scientists. There are hours and hours of great talk about newest technology and various practical engineering things and stuff, ideal as background videos for when you're drawing something for example.

Magnus Midtbø: Quite popular channel that nowadays suffers from clickbait and shitty content, but there's still good stuff and you can just go for his older videos. He's a Norwegian, one of the best world climbers, doing various strength tests, meeting and training with other climbers, bodybuilders, soldiers and stuff like that. I'm not a climber or anything like that, but I find it fascinating to learn what that world is about.

Some other channels I liked to some degree are Fredrik Knudsen, Internet Historian, Outdoor Boys, Numberphile, CGP Grey, Grubby, 3Blue1Brown, Quake Speedruns Explained, Curious Cabinet, DYKG Clips, Annoying Warcraft 3, Primitive Technology, Smarter Every Day, People Are Deep and probably many more.

youtube is aids cancer, yes, i only go there to listen to things i haven't downloaded like compilations for shows i've watched or just for searching for music. i do have a few select channels that i've downloaded however

Sam O'Nella - is a fun channel for generalists like me. first of many badly drawn edutainment channels and i always stick with the og

whoisthisgit - i think i remember coming across this channel a long time ago for his tails abuse series. this is a channel that always feels like it's smack from early youtube (because it is that old) and goes over a lot of aspects of video games i'll never play (series include: boss analysis, leave my [senses] alone (the mind videos cover his video game related dreams), best/worst levels ever, most powerful characters in gaming ever...)
the problem is it has no voices so i do have to engage with the video more, and i don't like it when he talks anyways (ugly british voice)

James Sherman - is a channel focusing on completely creating computer components from scratch, such as a CPU and VGA. open/homemade hardware is always a really interesting and overlooked topic in the search for computer freedom, and there's little active places for it

GmanModz - i think i remember seeing this channel when i was younger and was really interested in how people could take apart console hardware like this channel and transform them into portable devices. it's kinda like what cyberdecks should be instead of pre made hobbyist stuff.

Rebecca Chinn: makes vlogs, tutorials, and discussions about wushu. as somebody who is self-training i probably would've quit without her videos, i'm so grateful for her

Ceave Gaming: mostly about mario maker challenges. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9127T9yasc made me die laughing

Emma Rouge: her personality and her work ethic in running a second-hand store is so captivating, she's always trying to grow her business and it's really inspiring

FairyTailGal10: a goldmine for old cosplay videos

San Solo Travel and It's Time to Travel: walking tours of Japanese streets and hotels (mostly Tokyo). please recommend channels similar to these (especially if they are silent with subtitles and are about countries other than Japan)

Fireside Reading with Gildart Jackson: the most charming audiobooks ever!

Summation Gathering: reviews and discussions about golden-age mystery novels

Wushu Stars Channel: their "Wushu Stars Connect!" series interviews male and female wushu athletes from around the world. it's a good way to practice your chinese listening cuz they're almost an hour long

Egush: minecraft asmr. i've genuinely never hear of a sweeter voice than his it's amazing

i am not sure what to call these types of youtubers, but they have a special place in my heart.
unfortunately i do not speak japanese. i was also not in present in the time period they were active.
this resulted in my only being able to see what lasts of their legacy. i do not know the full context behind the disappearance of nishizono's old videos.
