Do you always watch the OP and ED?

When you watch an anime, do you watch the OP every time? What about the ED?

I personally watch both every time. For whatever reason I never get bored of it, and always find that it is a refreshing bonus at the beginning and end. I do it even when I don't think it's a particularly "great" OP/ED. I don't know, it just feels wrong to skip it. And I guess it sort of recreates the feeling of seeing it on TV?

But I do understand those who skip them. I recently watched Ranma 1/2 and, while most of the OPs for the different seasons were great, the one they ended the series on in the last season really sucked. I still watched it though because... I don't know... something feels wrong when I skip it!

I usually watch OP/ED unless those are too bad. Because occasionally the animations are different depending on the episodes.

My brain intuitively views one as essential and one as supplementary, and so I haven't really given thought to skipping the ED until now. I think it maybe comes from more western shows/movies where usually the ending sequences are just credits on a black screen. I should probably rectify this

I only skip them if they're really bad, which is like 1% of anime. I get annoyed when people skip intros in other shows too. I think it's a normie thing to do so but I don't get it

This makes sense to me. If anything, I do view the ED as slightly less important, as usually even in anime they're a bit less "developed." I think the older the anime is, the less developed the ED often is, and it's only recently that the ED has become a sort of secondary OP and opportunity for cool animations etc. Though a lot of them have great enough music that it's enough of a reason to sit through.

Though some EDs are absolutely essential to watch, even more than the OPs. I won't convert this thread into "best OPs/EDs," but this is the first one that came to mind (only crappy bootleg quality on YT for some reason... ):

depends on the music, but i mostly skip the EDs. for revolutionary girl utena, i would skip the ED because i NEEDED to know what happened next episode and then calmly sit for “rondo revolution” five secconds later because it is the greatest OP of all time but for keion i’d usually skip the OP and sit for the ED because i prefer mio over yui.

Would there be people who skip repeated magical girl transformation scenes or things like those? Especially when one is not interested in the characters.

I watch Star Detective Precure! and there are lots of repeated transformation scenes. In every episode. So I wondered if it was a case.

I certainly don't! Though the only magical girl show I watched all the way through was Sailor Moon. But those sequences are the kind that you never get sick of watching. They're some of the godliest animation in the series! (and often in anime as a whole).

The only things I tend to skip are "recap" episodes. I feel like those are just a relic of when people couldn't look up episode summaries online.

The cutoff point seems to be somewhere around 2015. It might sound odd, but the difference in quality between OPs from anime in the 2000s and earlier, and anime from the past 10 years, is massive. When I'm watching an older anime, I'll rarely skip OPs (and I'll often watch EDs, too). For newer anime it's 90% certainly a skip.

Older anime OPs are good like 90% of time or even more. And they're very frequently bangers. I can never bring myself to skip bangers even If I'm marathoning an anime. I mean stuff like GTO, you know, many anime from the 90s and 2000s are so good at getting you into the mood for what you're watching. The OPs and EDs I may even listen to when I'm on the go, they're pretty much always from classics from around the 2000s. Even shitty anime from that period understood how important it is to have a good OP and ED. Take H2O: Footprints in the sand, for example. Some fantastic music for a really crappy show. You can find those amazing OPs and EDs anywhere. More recent anime is like the opposite. They're never found, in anything. It's bad like 90% of the time. Even if the show is good, skipping the OP is the default option. There are no bangers, ever. It's the same gay bullshit over and over, and it rarely suits the material. I don't mean gay as a generic insult either. I mean that newer OPs are straight up really homosexual, and commercial in a really gay way, they've totally lost the plot when it comes to good taste, many newer OPs and EDs are like an affront to the senses, and when they're not that far gone, they're just really lame and forgettable so I skip them.

When watching older anime, it's not that uncommon to find a 9/10 or a 10/10 OP/ED. In newer anime, it's uncommon to find one that is 5/10 or better. WTF happened?
