I like the magazine Manga Time Kirara and Slice of Life in general. Though I don't know much about the differences between Max, Forward, &c.

Already wrote about this on my site but, I read and finished Seihantai na Kimi to Boku manga after watching the anime 2 days ago. It's basically a zoomer romcom that's just very wholesome and focuses on dating rather than the build up to the confession. The characters are nice and decently fleshed out and it was a very positive manga overall. Both this and the anime were very cute. Very 2020 though, so you may or may not like that sort of culture.

Also, everytime I watch/read romcoms like this which focus on normies and normie friend groups, i sometimes feel like im missing out on something ! well, there's a reason why i dont have such experiences anyways and that has to do with my personal tastes and interests irl, but stuff like this makes me appreciate these people more, the kind ones at least.



Anyways this is not really anything special though. I'm not sure how interested people in this forum are with these types of manga, but it was the most recent one I read.

Typically I only read manga after I've watched the anime first and it's not from an LN. I'm just not a big manga reader sadly. But as such, my tastes in manga are pretty much the same with my tastes in most media, that is I can like almost anything that offers some value, isn't imposing its ideals on viewers too strongly, and has some interesting things to say or cover, which it manages to convey well enough. My favorite stuff typically contains some sort of slice of life elements though. If I had to recommend a manga that I really liked to people in this forum, I would recommend something like Houseki no Kuni.

Yes. This might not be that related to your post, but there are two types of manga readers.

One is people who read famous manga magazines to read the latest developments of the mangas they like. The other is people who read the standalone manga books released as the summary. I think it is also the same for animes. Literature in general too.

I was quite the former in the past. Because I had a habit of reading the latest seiyuu magazines like Seiyuu Grand Prix, Seiyuu Paradise, &c. as a former seiyuu otaku. However I'm rather inclined to the latter these days. It feels wasteful to do the former.

Also I often read Comic Yuri Hime in the past to check some of my favourites like Yuri Is My Job! or Whisper Me a Love Song. Which are also made into animes. They are still going on Yuri Hime. Since there are not many yuri mangas anyway, reading Yuri Hime was a natural choice.

But I'm not that into yuri these days and like Kirara style slice of life more. And there are 4 different magazines being released under the Kirara name. That is ridiculous.

Though I still occasionally read those manga magazines to check what is the current trend.

tbh if you were never drawn to "normie" things, it wasn't meant for you and there's nothing to regret about. i remember seeing photos of an acquaintance at a dinner party, wearing cute little dresses and posing in front of mirrors. i felt jealous until i remembered i've never been interested in those things in my life i felt jealous because i thought that was what a teenager is SUPPOSED to be, and i was ignoring what i actually liked. i think i was a good middle ground on the popularity scale; i was social enough that everybody knew me, but i still stayed true to myself with my "weird" close friends.

to stay on-topic, i was really disappointed by arina tanemura; her art is gorgeous (and was a huge inspiration for me as a kid ) but her writing was really lackluster. all of her side characters are so annoying. the worst example are the annoying little craps in phantom thief jeanne those guys have literally NO LIFE outside of the main couple

Umibe no Onnanoko
This work is about teenagers doing intmidate things for escapism and a whole vibe, highly recommended but have a lot of NSFW panels if anyone have issues, just don't read it


Solanin
This manga features early adulthood, relatable characters and a song written by the mangaka himself and later released by Asian Kung-fu generation

Actually it's one of the best manga and probably extra well-suited for readers here since it's about a guy who likes obscure poetry and literature and philosophy (and is a loner and an outcast).

haven't read this one yet, but I enjoyed Oshimi's Okaeri Alice so I think I should read more Oshimi

Currently following Medalist and Nikaido Hell Golf, but the latter is in translation hell right now. Nikaidou Hell Golf was started by Fukumoto after he put Kaiji on hiatus. It's not as good as Kaiji, this is mainly because current day Fukumoto has lost his edge. But Fukumoto is still Fukumoto and I still like what he does, even without the edge. Nikaidou Hell Golf 30 years ago would've probably been incredibly depressing or affecting. Today it's just... halfway like that. The guy's gotten old and I think his viewpoints today are just more relaxed, or something! Still, it's a pretty strong manga. It's about a guy with way too much tenacity who just won't quit golf no matter what. Recommended.

As for Medalist, it's either a 9/10 or a 10/10. I don't think I can say before it has finished. But it strongly hinted at potentialy being a 10/10 after around 40 to 50 chapters, and we're only up to chapter 58 or something so far. Still, this is my favorite more recent (let's say, last 10-20 years) manga. I love it.

I'm a bit behind on 100 girlfriends, but I hope to catch up sooner or later. I saw the first two seasons of the anime last year and fell absolutely in love with it. The Manga is also great but I think the Anime captures what's great about the manga to an extent that I'll recommend the anime first and foremost. Still, the more girlfriends get introduced, the more insane it gets, and this can also lead to some problems. So It's hard to know with which mindset to read this manga. The Anime had few enough girls that you could get more attached to them, kinda like if it was a VN but just short. However the manga is up to over 30 girlfriends now, so it's just one of the most insane slapstick comedies ever, and the attachment you could get early on is probably not going to happen again because it's overshadowed by the insanity. The insanity by itself makes this highly recommendable however.

I finished reading Tomie. It's not quite as strong as Uzumaki or Gyo, but It's still Junji Ito being Junji Ito. I also read a bunch of Junji Ito short stories. It seems like pretty much anything he does is good for a read, even if few will live up to the greatness of Uzumaki or Gyo.

I also finished Dororo and Princess Knights. Two lesser Tezuka mangas. Lesser Tezuka is still good though. Before those I finished Adolf, which is my 3rd favorite Tezuka manga so far, behind Hi no Tori and Buddha. Adolf's biggest weakness, I guess, is the way he shoehorns in romance and female characters just to be able to keep the plot going. He's seriously awful at writing this, but I can forgive him since it's not the main point of the manga, and there's so many other fantastic things to make up for this.

Oh and lets see... Another thing I finished around new years was Battle Angel Alita. Excellent manga, a deserved classic. I couldn't really get into the stuff after the original main series, though.
