Cool video I saw earlier this year:



TL;DR: 400 mya the most substantial lifeform on the earth were weird massive pillars that aren't plants or animals. They were thought to be fungi for a long time, but recent studies seem to show that they almost certainly aren't fungi because they seem to have had no chitin in their cells, among other anomalies like tube-like structures that may have behaved like lungs. It thus seems to have been an entirely different kingdom of life.

Personally I always have been attracted to Plant Taxonomy or Plant Systematics. Especially when it comes to foods.

For example tomatoes, potatoes, aubergines, peppers all belong to the family Solanaceae and have some toxicity. Usually that toxic is Solanin. But Capsaicin in chilli peppers is also somewhat like what Solanin is deformed. Though it might not be correct to write in this way.

My favourite book is Botany in a day by Thomas J. Elpel. It makes you be able to identify what families the plants on the streets belong to. But I also recommend to read some Plant Systematics books and Evolutionary Biology in general. Because those contain the evolutionary history of plants.

Speaking of monkeys, I like capuchin monkeys who use stone tools.
