No chatroom?

If we are returning to tradition of complimenting forums with chatrooms, Rizon is naturally the place for our kind to go -- I heavily encourage using irc.rizon.net as server -- and to admin-san in particular, I recommend /msg nickserv help register (register account) followed by /msg chanserv help register (register a chatroom). Many imageboard and anime adjacent spaces already use that network to great success.
XMPP MUC (multi user chats) are an acceptable alternative because XMPP is better decentralized and has nice tools for E2EE private messaging.
I am aware of the cytube existing ; as the admin of
//gikopoi.com I also welcome people to use that platform to chat and stream as they see fit. I will not necessarily call it the best option but there are nearly 70 catrooms on the server and usually only 1 is being used, by the regulars, and they don't mind new friends cohabiting the space.

I've been trying to set up an XMPP MUC, but it's proven harder than expected. I might eventually open up the CyTube to be regularly open if I can't get a MUC up and running. Though I think it would be ideal to have something perfectly hermetically sealed like a MUC. I'll be a bit busy for the next few weeks, so will have less time than normal to work on this stuff. But hopefully I'll get back to this around.
If you want to test it, you can try to add me on XMPP at
amlux@pantsuprophet.xyz and the room is
oppai.oracle@muc.pantsuprophet.xyz.

Assuming a person have access to a Lunix server, either running an irc client in a shell (such as irssi in tmux/screen, or erc in emacs if one is a FREAK) or setting up a bouncer on IRC (desktop/mobile can connect to a running process and fetch messages one missed while away) may be your cup of tea. Rizon even offers free BNC server to simplify that "always online for multiple devices" experience for folks without Lunix servers / Lunix savvy.
Idk what's wrong with your MUC setup (I can't join the room) but XMPP MUC can be trivially bridged to an IRC room granted that you have access to a Lunix server and ideally control both chatrooms, so people can pick their poison, as it were.
The nice thing about IRC is that it "just works" with little friction, and people can also just join via webclient without installing special software or being forced to register an account -- XMPP MUC users do not enjoy this luxury. (This is a nice thing about gikopoi too!)

You make a compelling point. I will probably look into this in a few weeks or so after everything is settled from my move.
Though part of me worries about the potential availability of instant real-time communication making everyone less likely to want to engage in long-form, slower communication, which is the whole reason I wanted to make a forum in the first place! But it is probably for the best to have something like it just in case.
